Davao is Flooded Due to Non-Stop Rains / Class Suspension Announcement -- As of the latest news, there have been more than 5,000 families heavily affected by the flooding due to continuous rains in Davao.
Davao City Disaster Risk and Management Council reported that Tamugan River, one of the major tributaries of Davao river overflowed. This prompted the city government to call off classes from kinder to high school for both public and private.
The floods swept at least 12 barangays located along the banks of Davao river. Some of the residents refused to vacate the affected place, thereby some of them got trapped inside their houses.

Dante Donayre, DCDRMC operations chief remarked that despite the disaster preparedness trainings of the local leaders, there have been no transfer of information and capability building done so that the local communities can contemplate what has to be really done fast and what's otherwise. There should have been passing of the lessons to the community as a whole.

Meanwhile in Campostela Valley,  around 178 families left their homes.

Again, for the class suspension announcement today, Jan. 21, classes in Kindergarten and high school of both public and private have been called off. (Source: GMA News)
