Bike Riding Banned in Islamabad (Hyderabad, Quetta) -- Local authorities in the federal capital of Pakistan banned motorcycle riding during the month of Muharram, specifically on the 9th and 10th, which falls on Ashura event.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic Calendar. It is one of the 4 sacred months wherein fighting is prohibited. Muharram is a lunar calendar, so it moves from year to year when compared with the Gregorian calendar. While Ashura, literally means the 10th - the climax of mourning during the month of Muharram. It was the day of the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him), the last and final messenger of Allah. (wiki)

The ban on the use of motorbike in  Islamabad will be effective from 10:30 am to 8 pm. Online sources did not elucidate the reasons why the ban was issued.
