DepEd Chief Told Teachers to Keep Christmas Party Simple -- Education Secretary Armin Luistro released a reminder to the school Principals and teachers to the keep their upcoming Christmas parties simple. The reminder was made after the secretary received information from parents that some teachers  do collect high fees for the event.
The Secretary advised to conduct the activity austere and with no fancy preparations. The community may also cooperate in celebrating the event by employing collective approaches. In this way, deeper understanding of the true meaning of the season maybe realized.

Meanwhile, Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri issued similar warning to teachers and principals in public schools in his city, Caloocan.

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Armin Luistro and Mayor Echiverri's warning is based on DepEd Order No. 19-2008, which prohibits collection of fees to fund extravagant activities including parties during Christmas.
Teachers need not force their students to give donations for their Christmas party especially since such celebration can be carried out in a simple, non-burdensome way (Mayor Echiverri)
