Happy 72nd Birthday Bruce Lee

Happy 72nd Birthday Bruce Lee -- Today, November 27 marks the 72nd  birthday of the famous actor, film maker, philosopher and martial artist Bruce Lee. It's been 39 years since he died. He is the founder of the famous martial arts discipline Jeet Kune Do, the son of Cantonese opera star Lee Hoi-Chuen. Considered as one of the most influential martial artists of all time, Lee is often "credited with helping the way Asians were presented in American films."
Lee's birth name in Cantonese was "Lee Jun-fan". Homophonically, it means "return again". He was also named by his mother as "Sai-fon" or "small phoenix", which is actually a feminine name. It was out of Lee's mother's superstitious belief that the feminine nick name was given. Lee's other three (3) Chinese names are:
  1. Li Yuanxin  - a family/clan name
  2. Li Yuanjian - while he was attending La Salle College, and;
  3. Screen name Li Xiaolong - means "little dragon"
Bruce Lee was considered as an excellent dancer and boxer. He attended University of Washington and majored Philosophy, focusing on the philosophical principles of martial art techniques. Needless to say, Lee was not a just a muscle and martial arts guy.

Here's 8 of the top quotations of Bruce Lee's Philosophy:
1- Be formless... shapeless, like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You pour water into a bottle; it becomes the bottle. You put water into a teapot; it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or creep or drip or crash! Be water, my friend...
2- I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once. But I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.
3- All types of knowledge, ultimately leads to self knowledge.
4- Use only that which works, and take it from any place you can find it.
5- Do not deny the classical approach, simply as a reaction, or you will have created another pattern and trapped yourself there.
6- Quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough.
7- I always learn something, and that is: to always be yourself. And to express yourself, to have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate him.
8- It's not the daily increase but daily decrease. Hack away at the unessential.
Bruce Lee Video Games (Games made / dedicated to him): Bruce Lee (1983), Bruce Lee Lives (1989), Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993), Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon (2002), Bruce Lee: Return of the Legend (2003).

Books authored by Bruce Lee:
1- Chinese Gung-Fu: The Philosophical Art of Self Defense (Bruce Lee's first book) – 1963
2- Tao of Jeet Kune Do (Published posthumously) – 1973
3- Bruce Lee's Fighting Method (Published posthumously) – 1978

Bruce Lee is a legend and his legacy still lives. Either you are in the martial arts discipline or philosophy for that matter, Lee's wisdom is ultimately focused on the realization of knowledge of oneself. Knowing who you are can be a lethal weapon, physically and mentally.
For the bonus: Noticed today's date "Nov. 27"? It's the reverse of his supposed age today which is 72. It is very much related to his logo of Jeet Kune Do - an image of the Yin Yang in the center, signifying fluidity, shadow and light and duality (like hot and cold, male and female, light and dark).
