New Rizal Park Opened in Sydney, Australia

New Rizal Park Opened in Sydney, Australia -- President Aquino unveiled a new Rizal Park in Sydney, Australia on Friday. Described by President Aquino as "Powerful symbol of new chapter in old friendship", the 5-meter bronze statue of Jose Rizal is the 7th Rizal landmark in Australia. This one was donated by sculptor Eduardo Castrillo.
The new Rizal park is situated in Campbelltown City, a suburb in Sydney. The presentation and unveiling was attended by New South Wales Premier Barry O’Farrell and Campbelltown Mayor Sue Dobson. Also in the ceremony were Enrique “Iking” Reyes, great-grandson of Rizal’s sister, Saturnina Realonda Rizal, and his family.

The five (5) years fund raising by the Filipino migrants in Australia has finally paid off as they were able to raise the amount of US$36,995 for the statue. The sculpture stands 5 meters tall, or 7m including the pedestal.

For sure, if you ever find yourself residing in Campbelltown City someday, you would have something to visit as part of your golden national treasure. You would be enjoying an authentic replica of Rizal Park, like what we got here in Metro Manila.
