Magnitude 5 Earthquake Hits Eastern Samar

Magnitude 5 Earthquake Hits Eastern Samar -- Friday took Eastern Samar with a magnitude 5 quake this morning at 6:58, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). There might be a confusion on the part of inquirer.net and interaksyon.com; The former has the time of occurrence of the quake at 6:58 pm, while the latter got 6:58 am.
As of yet, there are no immediate reports regarding damages and injuries inflicted by the tremor, which centered at 87 kilometers northeast of Guiuan, with a depth of 16 kilometers.

While some critical regions of the country were enduring the rounds of typhoon OFEL, Eastern Samar took another load of natural calamity. This is perhaps brought by the fact that the Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates got the highest potential to collide and thereby exhibit frequent seismic and volcanic activity.

Aftershocks could be expected out of this magnitude 5 earthquake, as per statement released by Phivolcs.

Meanwhile, I hope you all enjoyed this first day of the long weekend ahead.
