Gearing up for All Saints Day and All Souls Day 2012

Prepping up for All Saints’ Day and All Souls Day: Alternate Routes and Traffic Advisory -- While we wait for the observance of Eidul Adha (Eid-ul-Adha) on October 26 as one of the regular holidays in the Philippines, we also got another one to prepare for in the coming week. We got All Saints’ Day and All Souls Day coming up so it is time again to pay attention to our possible preparation drills, alternate routes and also traffic advisory.

On matters of safety, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) expressed its preparedness to respond to any emergency calls during the observance of All Saints’ Day. According to BFP officer-in-charge Ruben Bearis Jr., the bureau has been refining its "Oplan Kaluluwa Iwas Sunog, Bantay Motorista scheme" to ensure public safety better. Moreover, as part of the efforts, Bearis said he already directed all regional, provincial and municipal fire stations to display posters and tarps in front of their stations or other visible places to remind the motorists about the importance safety. Bearis added:
The Medical Services Team shall be giving medical assistance and consultations to the public, who will be visiting their departed loved ones
Meanwhile, about 2,000 personnel are being readied by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to the different cemeteries in the Metro for the said holidays. The said personnel shall be composed of the following:
  • Traffic constables
  • Sidewalk clearing crews and;
  • People from MMDA's Roadside Emergency Unit
The deployment will be started today, October 25. Some MMDA guys on e-scooters shall be assigned inside the large cemeteries to assist the public. MMDA chairman Tolentino said that his office will pay close attention to the following cemeteries in Metro Manila:
  1. Makati South Cemetery
  2. Pasay City Cemetery
  3. Navotas Public Cemetery and the;
  4. Tugatog Public Cemetery
Additionally at this moment in time, we are grateful that we got a very useful update regarding the alternate routes and traffic advisory for the residents of Paranaque city or those who will be passing by the city's thoroughfares during the coming holidays.

Let's hope that MMDA will release similar updates for the Metro in general.
