The UP College Admission Test 2013 or UPCAT will be this weekend. Are you ready to take the plunge and the golden chance to become part of the UP history? You better gear up and test the waters on Aug. 4-5, at the designated testing centers in your place.

As you know, the University of the Philippines is the best university in the country according to the report of international research organization Quacquarelli Symonds Intelligence Unit (QSIU) on Asia’s top universities.

Here are some of the trails of fame that you should know about UP.

So, without much ado, here are the 10 Things to Know as an UPCAT Taker:

1. This year will be the first time for UPCAT to employ an essay writing part in the examination. Previously, there were only multiple-choice questions in four test areas: Language Proficiency, Science, Mathematics and Reading Comprehension.

2. Last year's UPCAT takers were over 70k. It is estimated that UPCAT 2013 will overtake the said figure.

3. From that over 70k UPCAT 2012 takers, only 12,936 made it to the passing line - 3,821 landed in UP Diliman Campus.

4. UP Diliman hosts the most number of examinees.

5. Due to the growing number of UPCAT examinees, new testing centers were established - UP Manila, Antipolo, Imus and Trece Martires in Cavite.

6. If you ever lost your test permit, you must go to the testing center a day before your scheduled exam to get your provisional test permit.

7. UPCAT exam is dynamic in its application process. You can actually file your application to take the test even hours before the exam proper begins. But this applies only to large regional testing centers. So make sure to bring the complete requirements for submission.

8. Last year, the 10 largest test centers were the ff: UP Los Banos, Malolos City, UP Tacloban, UP Iloilo, UPEP Pampanga, Batangas City, Imus in Cavite, UP Cebu, UP Mindanao, and Davao City.

9. If by valid reason that you won't be able to take the exam on Saturday, like religious in nature or something like it, you can actually request to take the test on the next day which is Sunday.

10. Take special note of your UPCAT Identification Number. If you make it in the exam, that ID number, in most cases, will be your student number. The future symbol of your stay in UP.

Watch out for the UPCAT 2013 results, which will be released in February next year (2013). Let's hope for your name to be included in the UPCAT 2013 List of Passers.
